Good Samaritan's Home Ministries, June 2014

What an exciting year it has been as we have watched our 10 year dream of completing a permanent home and school for the precious children in Good Samaritan’s Home, become a reality!

On June 16, 2014, the school opened, approved for operation on a conditional basis, with a few additional projects to be completed in the near future. God’s grace and provision have enabled our communities to raise and send the $200,000 needed to complete the school and home to this point. An additional $33,000 will need to be raised to bring the home and school to full completion and government compliance. (kitchen ,$20,000; an additional well and water storage, $9,500;  a commercial grade electrical transformer$1,500; and teacher’s insurance deposit, $2,000)

To give us a full report, we are excited to announce the upcoming visit of Brother Joseph’s father, Prabha Kolamuri, July 5th-14th, 2014 . We will be welcoming him at a potluck at the Holst’s home on Sunday July 6th, 5:00-8:00pm.  We are attaching a full schedule of his visit so that you may take as many opportunities as you can to sit at his feet and learn and glean from this wonderful servant of the LORD. We will be sending him off on Sunday July 13th at a potluck at the Barr’s home, 5:00-8:00pm. We encourage you to send back with Prabha, greetings of letters and photos to the Kolamuri family and the children, but due to space, no gifts please.

We are also excitedly preparing for the visit of Brother Joseph in Sept. 2014. Watch future emails for a schedule of events. Please pray for the details of the full completion of the school and home, Prabha’s visit, Brother Joseph’s visit, and lives to be changed as a result of the gospel outreach in Rajahmundry June 25-27, 2014.

Praise be to God for His faithfulness to Good Samaritan’s Home Ministries!

Good Samaritan's Home Ministry (Update Dec. 2013)

Dear GSH Supporters,
Hearty greetings to you from India and from our own chilly Siskiyou County! The low temperatures in India are in the upper 60's and low 70's in December, but that is COLD to them! We spoke with Pastor Joseph today and one of his prayer requests is for good physical health for him since he is exposed to "cold" night air as he is preaching in different places each night. He specifically wanted prayer for the  Rajahmundry city wide Christmas celebration on Saturday Dec. 14th from 7pm-10pm. He said that thousands of citizens, pastors and politicians will be there and he will be the main speaker--posters of him are all over the city! Please pray that He would be led by the Holy Spirit to preach the gospel message.
We are in the process of compiling a mailing that will update you on all the GSH  ministries, but we didn't want you to miss out on the latest from Pastor Joseph as well as the current ministries needs list. Watch for the mail update in the next couple weeks and be encouraged that your prayers and financial support are accomplishing amazing things in the lives of the poor in Rajahmundry, India.
To God be the glory!

Dear Supporters of GSH Ministries,

I am pleased to provide you with this update about the progress of construction of the GSH Children's Home and School.  Included are some photos of the footings going in.  The building is concrete construction, so lots of rebar!  The progress has been fairly steady with some minor delays due to the rain (It is the rainy season in India right now).

Our initial funds that we started construction with will be used up in about 30 days, so we are praying for God's provision of the funds needed to keep construction moving.  If you are considering a gift to help fund construction now is a great time.  The dollar is very strong against the rupee right now (best ever actually).  The exchange rate has been between 44-50 rupees to the dollar  over the last decade but is currently at 60.  This means we're getting 20-30% more bang for our buck right now.  We thank God for this fortuitous exchange rate.

Please also pray about being part of the delegation  that is planning to visit India in November for the grand opening of the home.  You can express your interest in a reply to this email or by talking to any GSH board member.

We will continue to send photos of the progress as we receive them.

Thanks for your continued support of Brother Joseph and GSH!

In Christ,

Jacob Barr

President GSH USA

Prayer Concerns from the Warwicks

Dear Tony,

Thanks you! We are grateful for your willingness to bring our prayer needs before the throne of grace on our behalf.

Endurance, focus and those holding down the fort at home: Yes, I know, we said that in the last Prayer Update too! Since we last checked in, Ken has been in Dar es Salaam, Berlin, Thailand and New Orleans. Now both of us are headed for the ReachGlobal Europe Conference. Ken is grateful for the access to so many of our staff at the conference in Slovenia, but that kind of schedule does demand a prayer-fueled endurance. Both of us will work with Heidi Tunberg to offer a day long workshop at the conference for those parents who are dealing with the sorrow of having "prodigal" children. Numerous other more project oriented meetings and conversations will make the six days with our Europe staff very full.  Please pray for Suzanne and Ren as they hold the fort in Minnesota.

Wisdom in many conversations: Though it is wonderful to pick up conversations started years before in relationships spanning decades, it can also be a complex task, requiring immense concentration.  Pray that Ken would have wisdom and clarity in all his conversations in Slovenia.

Refreshing times of encouragement. Please pray for all of our staff from across Europe as they gather that they might be encouraged by the speakers, the workshops and in worship together!

Times with old friends in Germany and Austria. We are taking advantage of the trip to the conference to visit five families on the way to Slovenia. These are all relationships measured in decades. Please pray we will be a blessing to each family we visit.

The major projects continue even though we are on the road. Ken is very involved in four ongoing projects which impact our entire missionary staff. Two of those will require immediate attention once we return from the conference so please pray that long plane rides and side conversations at the conference can help him keep those balls in the air as well.

Thanks! We'd love to know how we can be praying for you these days as well.

In Him,

Ken and JoAn

Prayer Concerns from Kathy Keller

Dear Praying Friends,

Thank you so much for praying for our team over the last few weeks.  Our TIMO Quest team has gone well and I have personally seen God working in the lives of people in new and significant ways.  Praise the Lord!  I appreciate so many of you who faithful pray for me, my team, and the people we work with.

As my last prayer update indicated we are coming up on a two week vacation.  I am really looking forward to this time to be with my mom and to go on an exciting vacation with her.

Our TIMO Questers leave on Wednesday, we have team day on Thursday, and our vacation starts on Sunday/Monday.  Yeah!

I just wanted to ask prayer for one thing that is more of a personal item.  A couple days ago now I experienced a brief numbness in my right arm and some slurred speech.  I was able to get an MRI in Dar es Salaam and it has been determined through that that I need to have an appointment with a neurologist.  We do not have a neurologist in Dar es Salaam that can help me figure out a treatment plan, so I have been advised by our insurance and medical personnel to make a quick trip to South Africa (five hour direct flight) to see a doctor there.

Would you pray that this trip would go smoothly?  Would you pray that Laura (who is going with me) and I would find the offices we need and an inexpensive place to stay quickly?  Would you also pray that I can get this sorted out and be back here either on Friday to meet up with my mom, or at least by Sunday so we can head off on our planned vacation?  Would you pray for me that I would not have any sort of fear about any of this?

I would covet your prayers.

In Him,

Kathy Keller

Email Response From Brother Joseph

Dear sister Marina Rosso,
Hearty greetings in Jesus Holy name. I am so happy to receive an e-mail from you. I always remember your EV Free church in my prayers. I had a blessed time with some of your church members when I was in USA in the year 2011. You are blessed with very good pastors ie Pastor Gary Vandiwalker , Pastor Jeff, and others. We all had nice lunch in restaurant after Sunday service with Pastors, Moss family, and some brothers and sisters of EV Free church. It is really good to have communication with you from that blessed Church.

For the past many years, many people from EV Free Mount Shasta have been supporting children at GSH Home. Additionally, your Pastor Jeff Summers visited here in 2010 and witnessed our church, children's home, and many Gospel outreaches. Thank you for praying for us over the years. We have seen God's Holy Spirit move and many Hindus, Muslims, and unbelievers have believed in the name of Jesus.

The children at GSH Home are thriving thanks to the quality care they are receiving. In addition to food, clothing, education, and health care, they are also being instructed daily in the Word of God. Recently we began construction of a new children's home cum English-medium school. The building and land is being constructed from donations received by individuals in your church and from other churches in your area. For more specific information about the building of this new home, please ask Pastor Jeff Summers who knows all this information. I feel it as a blessing to communicate with you and share my burden of missionary work in our place.

We are looking forward to receiving a delegation this fall of Bro David Holst and Sister Lori Holst, and perhaps others from your area. The delegation will come to witness and celebrate the completion of the children's home. I request your earnest prayers for the construction of Children’s home cum English medium School, Leppor Ministries, Medical ministries, Gospel outreach ministries..
Our prayers are always with you. God bless you sister.
Your brother in His service,
Pastor K. Joseph Edwards.

Kathy Keller email

Good morning!  How are you?  I hope you are well!

I just wanted to write something short here to let you know I am working on a longer letter.  I feel like days go by and I have not been faithful to tell you what is happening here.  In some ways I have felt the Lord's hand moving in ways I haven't seen Him move in the past (I know He is always working, but sometimes it is a whisper, and other times it is a roar!).  Last night myself, Kayla, and Laura were in the home of two girls from an IslamXic community that many of you have prayed for for many years—Lamiya and Samiya.  In fact, I have had almost a full page written about Lamiya in the past.

I had lost touch with her once TIMO started, mostly because I became a bit busy and she was busy with school.  She is a young girl we spent many hours with sharing the gospel narrations to over many years.  She knows a lot of deep theology as she had heard the chronological narrations of the Bible multiple times as well as other lessons here and there.  The last time we had spent significant time with Lamiya, a bit over a year ago, Laura and I sat with her and asked her if she was believing in Jesus on a heart level.  She said yes and we prayed with her that day to accept Jesus into her life as her Savior.  Laura and I did not really know how deep this commitment was or if she was just agreeing as many people here do out of respect to an elder.  We have been praying that the seeds that have been planted would take root and bear fruit.  So, to lose contact with her was a disappointment.

I saw her a few months ago in her school and she asked me when we were starting clubs again.  I told her I wasn't sure.  Well, to make a long story short, her and her sister have been around quite a bit the past month for girls club, a musicology seminar (where we wrote a song from God's Word in one of her styles of music), for a prayer and fellowship time with Benaaz and family (the family who seems to be turning their lives to the Lord—more amazing stuff!), and time to just hang out. Her sister, Samiya, was glued on the teachers last Friday (myself and Benaaz) when it was time to talk about Abraham, the sacrifice of Isaac, John the Baptist calling Jesus the "Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the World", and more about our need for saving grace, through the cross of Jesus.  It was exciting to see her interest as in the past I did not think she seemed very spiritually sensitive, it always seemed to be Lamiya that was interested in Spiritual things.

We love these girls and have a great relationship with them, but have had little contact with their family.  Until last night.  Last night was the first time we have ever been in their home.  It was wonderful to sit with their (new) mom and talk about life.  At the end we prayed for her and she had tears in her eyes.  She asked us to come back!  We have also recently found out that their (new) mom is sister to Muffu (a boy who used to come to our BAMBA camps and hang out with our interns A LOT! Hearing about Jesus), and also second cousin to Mohammed and Hussein (who used to consistently come to club).  I used to write about Muhammed and how we truly believed God was tugging at his heart. Is it a coincidence that we have had three different contacts with one extended family and we didn't even know that? I DO NOT THINK SO!  It shows how an awesome God works without you even knowing it.  :-)  More to come soon.

Below is a picture from one of our song writing days (not the day Lamiya and Samiya came).
It was fun to try and write some songs about God's Word with a few different communities represented.
More to come on that in my upcoming letter.

In Him,

Kathy

Update from Kathy Keller

Dear Praying Friends,

It is 1:47Am in the morning.  I just returned from the small cell group meeting that Benaaz, her family and her father's former "hindu drinking buddy" (Sameer) have started.    Tonight Benaaz prayed!  That was great—praise the Lord.  Her parents say they still are not ready to pray.  Keep praying for both of them as they seem to be counting the cost to follow Jesus.

I just could not go to sleep without sharing what felt like a a God ordained moment in time.

When Kayla (my teammate) asked prayer for special healing for Angela (our other teammate) who was sick today, Sameer (who was Benaaz's dad's "hindu drinking buddy" just a few weeks ago) said he would pray for her.  So, he asked her name about 5 times (just as we have issues remembering foreign names, so do they!) and then mentioned to all of us that he had never prayed for anyone before in his life and Angela would be his first.  He seemed a little nervous and somewhat awkward, but Kayla and I (and the others in the group—six of them) encouraged him to pray for her.  When he finished I could not help but have tears in my eyes just considering the fact that I was able to hear a Hindu man offer his first words of prayer on behalf of another person, and it was for my friend Angela.  He prayed that she would know the power of the blood of Jesus Christ in her life.  I believe that God and His angels were rejoicing tonight as this man humbled Himself, selflessly offering up prayer for another for the first time.

And I am so thankful He allowed me to be there too!

Thanks for your prayers,

Kathy

Kathy Keller- Christmas 2012

Hello to you all!
I am about to leave for ....... on a trip with our TIMO team to ........ for a language, culture, meeting up with friends (a few, God willing) extravaganza.I will be gone until December 26th. I will write more about what has been going on here at that time. For those of you who had been praying for our Friday Club kids our last night was two days ago and we had a TON of parents come to our parent night. Oh, that God may use this club in the lives of family members here to draw them to Himself. Some exciting things have happened lately and I see God working and moving in the lives and hearts of people who have been hearing the gospel. Keep praying! Please pray for three people  that I believe God is working in—......, .........., and ........ I look forward to telling you some stories about them soon!
How can you pray for us while we are gone?
Please pray for team unity. When a group of eight people travel to a foreign land there are bound to be some tense moments. Pray that we would be the aroma of Jesus to each other and to all we meet on this trip. Pray for Jenny, myself, Angela, Becca (standing in back) and Matt, Erin, Kayla and Laura (sitting down). Pray this trip will help us to understand the heart language and worldview of our people. They are a lost bunch, and we want to faithfully serve them by knowing more about what makes them tick.
I do pray you have a wonderful Christmas Season in the states or wherever you find yourself in the next few weeks. I am looking forward to sharing more when I get back.
God works through prayer.

Dutton's- Thanksgiving Message 2012

Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Issue November 19, 2012

What we are thankful for....
As this time of year approaches, I think it is a great opportunity to truly think about all that the Lord has done in our lives. It is beyond me to comprehend that the God of the universe, to Whom the earth is His footstool, actually loves and cares for all His children and works in our lives in so many ways. So many times we tend to lose sight on all the things He has provided, what He has protected us from, and how many ways He has worked things for good, as we tend to focus our eyes on the things that we don't like or are wrong in our lives, society, etc.
As I take this time to shift my eyes upward, I find so many things to thank Him for: A roof over my head, clean water, medicine, sanitation, plumbing, hot water, food, dessert, protection, healthy children, vision, hearing, the ability to walk, the ability to eat food, the ability to smell, my family, friends, ministry, and SO MUCH more. I also want to take the time to THANK HIM FOR YOU and FOR YOUR SUPPORT of Heavenly Hope MInistries.

We can't thank you enough for your prayers and generosity. Sometimes it is difficult to continue the work: Opening up our lives to the pain, suffering, and need of others can be heavy, exhausting, messy, and difficult. I also know that it has been the most rewarding, amazing, growing, and wonderful things that God has ever done in our lives and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
It is in large part because of YOU that we are able to continue to serve the "least of these" for His glory. If it weren't for your generosity, we couldn't meet the needs of others. If it weren't for your prayers, we wouldn't have the strength, guidance, and protection needed to continue on. In Exodus 17:10-13 we see that when Aaron and Hur held up Moses' hands, Israel would win. Prior to that, whenever Moses' hands fell, Israel would start losing. It took his partners holding up his hands when he became too tired, for them to gain the victory.

It is the same with us. We need each other, the body of Christ, and all our supporters to hold up our hands, so that we can continue to gain the victory in the lives of those we serve. So, we THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts!
May you have a wonderful THANKSGIVING filled with His peace, joy, love, and blessings.
In Him,
John & Terina Dutton

Dutton's- Praise Report 11-2012

“For this is not for the ease of others and for your affliction, but by way of equality—at this present time your abundance being a supply for their need, so that their abundance also may become a supply for your need, that there may be equality; as it is written, “HE WHO gathered MUCH DID NOT HAVE TOO MUCH, AND HE WHO gathered LITTLE HAD NO LACK”...2 Cor 8:13-15-

· If you make $10,066- you are in the top !6% in worlds wealth.
· If your net worth is $61,000-you are one of the 10% richest IN THE WORLD.
·½ of world lives on less than $2/dollars a day.
·Over 1 billion attempt to live on $1/ day.

WE LIVE in the top 2%-5% in world!!! We have been given MUCH. What are we doing to bless others with what we have?
Do we spend more on our vacations, remodels, pleasures, clothes, and extras in a month than we do on the poor, orphaned, and needy?
Billy Graham said this: "give me 5 minutes with a persons checkbook and fincancial records and I will tell you where his heart is".
If someone were to look over our financial records what would they say of us. Would they see one who's heart for the poor, orphaned, and needy of this world spilled over into their pocketbook? Would they be blown away by the generosity and lack of selfishness reflected by what was recorded?
That is my hope, my encouragement, and my challenge, and I hope that it is yours as well.
"Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver"

M.A.R.K 10:14:

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT. To make a donation to support the ministry please click Here: Make sure to select the program you are wanting to support on the drop down tab.
THANK YOU!!!
END OF THE YEAR GIFT:
"I wanted to ask the Lord why He allows starvation, poverty, orphans, etc. but I was afraid He would ask me the same question".
As the end of the year approaches we want to encourage you to get your tax deductible donation in! The needs of the ministry are greater than ever as we continue to grow and partner with other organizations in working for His kingdom and His children.
At this time, the funds of the ministry are lower than they have ever been. We are partnered with a lot of amazing ministries, doing amazing things for His kingdom, but are finding that we can't support them in the work they are doing.
With your generosity, we currently have over 100 children in the child sponsorship program through the 3 orphanages, we are working with street kids through the M.A.R.K 10:14 program, are involved in family sponsorships, and are partnered with 4 at-risk women's groups. Not only this, but we know of MANY other amazing ministries that are looking for support in the work they are doing.
I have received email after email of pastors who are unable to feed or provide the basic neccessities for the orphans they are caring for in their church. I get pleas from pastors serving our brothers and sisters in countries of great persecution towards Christians, who are unable to provide basic needs for members in their churches where the husbands, being the only financial supporter of their families, have been put in prison for their faith.
Time after time my response is the same, "Im sorry, we can't take on any other projects at this time". Easy to read, but I can't tell you how hard it actually is to tell a pastor you have nothing to give and the feeling of knowing how hard it must be to hear another NO in a desperate situation. IT IS A HEAVY BURDEN.
While I know we can't save the world, and I must not carry a burden that the Lord hasn't given me, I do feel the burden of knowing that we, as a church, can do so much more! When I see the stats of how much we spend on so many temporal things I know that we can do so much more and I want to challenge you to join us in doing just that!

We, TOGETHER, can change the world one life, one family, one community at a time.
What are you willing to sacrifice to join me in this cause? We have been given the resources to end world hunger, give the entire world clean drinking water, and more. Will we???

Gideons- Please pray for Eastern Seaboard

Superstorm Sandy Image - AP
Much of the U.S. eastern seaboard is beginning the recovery from Superstorm Sandy which ripped through more than a dozen states this week.
“We are praying for the safety of all those directly impacted by the storm,” says Craig Warner, Executive Director of The Gideons International.
Please join us in praying that God’s grace and comfort will be upon our brothers and sisters in these areas whose lives are deeply affected by this disaster. Continue to pray for those victims who are now staying in emergency shelters or without power. And please pray that God would open the opportunity for Gideons to share God’s Word and that many people will come to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior.
In the past 90 days, The Gideons International has placed more than one million Scriptures in areas directly impacted by Sandy. Just last month, The Gideons International conducted a Metro Scripture Blitz in New York City in which thousands of Scriptures were distributed.

Johnson's- Help Needed

Dear ministry partners,

On Friday our RG-Europe Business Manager notified us that we will no longer be reimbursed for our ministry expenses since we’ve dropped well below the minimum required reserve in our ministry account.

And if the balance continues to drop, we will also need to take a cut in salary.

This has come about because:

· we’ve chosen not to raise our salary since 2009, being sensitive to economic difficulties experienced by many Stateside

· we’ve lost a few supporters over the past years

· our ministry expenses have been increasing gradually due to inflation, cost of living overseas, and increased non-taxable benefits such as medical, RG allocation, etc

As a result, over these past 12 months through August we’ve averaged a shortfall of about $1000 per month, which means we’ve gradually depleted the reserve we had due to one-time donations.

All this to say, we desperately need churches and individuals to:

· help us with one-time gifts to re-build our reserve so that we can be reimbursed for ministry expenses and also not have to take a cut in salary

· help us with our ongoing monthly support needs

Would you please pray about our needs and consider investing in our ministry to reach Muslims for Christ by adding us to your church or personal budget? Or if you’re already a financial supporter, would you please consider increasing the amount of your support? As you can appreciate, we prefer not to have to return to America prematurely before our summer 2013 Home Assignment.

We trust that our God who has called us to this ministry is the same God who will provide our needs. But we have a responsibility to make our needs known and to invite your prayerful consideration. Admittedly, I’ve been negligent about making these needs known in the past, tending instead to rely on the one-time donations.

As always, we remain extremely grateful for whatever contributions you’ve made in the past, and can make in the future!

For contributions to our ministry:

a) For USA checks, please make payable to "EFCA" , noting “1862, Johnsons support” on memo line. Mail checks or the attached pledge form to: Evangelical Free Church of America, 901 East 78th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55420-1300.

b) For UK cheques, make payable to “ReachGlobal”, noting “Johnsons support” on the reverse. Post cheques or the pledge form to us at: 117 Sandford Road, Moseley, Birmingham B13 9BU.

Dutton's- 2012 Fundraiser

WE NEED YOU!!! Only 1 game left this season and this is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Please pledge money for every touchdown John throws this season. Turn his on the field "success" into off the field "significance". Will you pass it along to your friends?
